Fubara Urges Rivers Assembly to Fully Implement Supreme Court Ruling

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on the 27-member House of Assembly to demonstrate full commitment to implementing the Supreme Court judgment on the state’s political crisis.

Speaking at the inauguration of the newly renovated Okrika Grammar School in Okrika Local Government Area on Thursday, Fubara emphasized that the Assembly must comply with the ruling in a way that prioritizes the state’s interests and fosters peace.

“The Supreme Court has made its judgment, and we have no option but to abide by it,” he stated. “We have started the process, and I appeal to all parties to consider the interest of Rivers State. The only thing we owe this state is peace and development.”

The governor stressed that peace was essential for effective governance, as instability hampers sustainable development, security, and public welfare.

Fubara highlighted his administration’s focus on education, healthcare, and agriculture, stating that the restoration of Okrika Grammar School aligns with these priorities. He recalled how the planning committee for the 20th Anniversary of the Diocese of Okrika Anglican Communion had requested the school’s renovation due to years of neglect.

“The least we could do as a government was to uplift the school’s standard,” he said. “Despite the challenges we face, we are here today unveiling one of our achievements.”

Assuring the Anglican Church of continued support, Fubara emphasized that education is a vital tool in reducing crime. He urged the church, which now manages the school, to maintain the facilities.

“The school belongs to the church, not the government. What we have done today is to complement their efforts,” he said.

Governor Fubara also encouraged the school’s Old Boys Association to take up strategic projects, including establishing a computer-based examination center, furnishing classrooms, and equipping science laboratories.

In response, the Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Obianime Appollos, praised the governor’s intervention, describing Okrika Grammar School as an iconic institution that had suffered years of neglect.

The Old Boys Association, represented by Mr. Golden Iruayenama, expressed gratitude, noting that past promises to renovate the school had failed until Governor Fubara’s intervention.

Bishop of the Diocese of Okrika Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Enoch Atuboyedia, lauded Fubara for his commitment to education, stating that the school’s restoration at its 85th anniversary would be remembered as a milestone in shaping the future of Rivers children.
