Gov. Makinde Pledges Lasting Governance Reforms in Oyo State Beyond Infrastructure

Oyo State Governor ‘Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building sustainable governance frameworks that go beyond infrastructure development. Speaking on Wednesday at a meeting with the leadership of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) in Ibadan, Makinde highlighted his vision to establish enduring institutions that would drive good governance in Oyo State for generations.

According to a statement from his Special Adviser (Media), Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Makinde explained that his focus on infrastructure is aimed at closing a significant deficit, citing the ongoing road reconstructions in Ibadan. Many roads in the city, he noted, are over 50 years old and require extensive rebuilding to ensure long-term resilience.

“While infrastructure is essential, we aim to be remembered for building institutions that guarantee good governance into the future,” Governor Makinde stated. On the upcoming Ondo State governorship election set for November 16, Makinde called for support for the PDP candidate, Chief Agboola Ajayi, emphasizing that elections should reflect the will of the people rather than be approached as a “do-or-die affair.”

During the meeting, MUSWEN President Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo commended Makinde for his recent approval of an N80,000 minimum wage and acknowledged his dedication to the welfare of citizens. MUSWEN, which represents Muslims across the South-West region, includes state councils, organizations, and institutions. The courtesy visit included Oyo State Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, senior government officials, and members of MUSWEN’s Executive Council.
