APC Youth Group Urges Yahaya Bello to Face Court Over Alleged N80 Billion Laundering

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Vanguard has called for former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to face trial over alleged money laundering charges amounting to N80 billion. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has faced difficulties in bringing Bello to court despite multiple summons, leading to calls for his trial in absentia at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In a statement on Sunday, Rasheed Sanusi, the APC Youth Vanguard’s coordinator, expressed frustration with Bello’s repeated absences from court, suggesting that his actions were tarnishing the reputation of the APC. Sanusi implied that Bello’s defiance may be viewed as protected due to his close ties with the ruling party and his involvement in the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council.

Sanusi contrasted Bello’s behavior with that of other former governors, such as Darius Ishaku of Taraba State, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, and Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, who have cooperated with EFCC investigations. He questioned why Bello continues to avoid court and urged the authorities to take action to ensure his compliance.

“Enough is enough,” Sanusi stated, urging Bello to either appear voluntarily for arraignment or be compelled to do so through inter-agency collaboration.
