Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power, has clarified that the administration of President Bola Tinubu does not intend to favor or discriminate against any region amid claims surrounding recent power outages in Northern Nigeria. During a courtesy visit to Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State on Thursday, Adelabu labeled the outages as “unfortunate” and emphasized that they were not intentional acts against the region.
“The situation is concerning and unfortunate. The President does not discriminate against any region. We all voted for him as Nigerians, and he is committed to all of us,” Adelabu affirmed. He expressed a desire to prevent the recurrence of such outages and underscored the need for permanent solutions.
The minister’s visit focused on assessing power installations and infrastructure in Kano and discussing potential collaborative efforts with the state government to improve power supply through sector investments. Adelabu pointed out that the power sector has been decentralized, allowing ten states to generate their own electricity; however, he noted that Kano has yet to take advantage of this opportunity.
“There is a need for partnership in generation and distribution. The federal government is ready to collaborate as many projects remain incomplete, leading to significant losses,” he stated. In response, Bala Sagagi, Chief of Staff to Governor Abba Yusuf, assured Adelabu that the Kano State government is committed to exploring investment opportunities in the power sector and will allocate budgetary provisions to subsidize electricity consumption.
