Three members of a medical helicopter crew were tragically killed in a crash on Monday in Kentucky, the Air Evac Lifeteam confirmed in a statement.
“Air Evac Lifeteam is heartbroken to share that three crew members from AEL base 133 perished in a helicopter accident in Owenton, Kentucky today,” the company said.
The crew was en route to pick up a patient when the crash occurred, and law enforcement notified the company of the incident.
“This was a terribly tragic accident, and our deepest sympathies go out to the employees’ families and friends,” the statement added.
The helicopter team was stationed in Grant County, Kentucky, and Air Evac Lifeteam said it is focusing on supporting the families and team members affected by the loss. Critical incident stress management teams have been deployed to provide assistance.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the crash, confirming via social media, “NTSB investigating the Oct. 7 crash of a Bell 206L-3 helicopter near Owenton, Kentucky.”
