Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has expressed his intention to play a pivotal role in selecting his successor for the 2027 governorship election, although he acknowledged that the final choice will ultimately lie with the people of the state. While he may not have complete control over who becomes the next governor, Makinde emphasized that his influence will be significant in the decision-making process.
During the presentation of a report by the committee responsible for reviewing public service rules in Oyo State, the governor highlighted that members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should anticipate his involvement in the party’s internal discussions regarding his successor. He reminded the public of his control over the PDP’s structure in the state.
Makinde further asserted that his administration would be remembered for establishing institutions capable of promoting progress long after his tenure, indicating his commitment to a reformed and more efficient public and civil service under his leadership. The committee’s report, led by former Secretary to the State Government Chief Adebisi Adesola, represents a significant step toward modernizing the civil service in Oyo State.
