FG Approves ₦77,000 Monthly Allowance for Corps Members

The Federal Government has officially raised the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to ₦77,000, starting from July 2024. This increase comes after the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 was passed, as outlined in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by its chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta.

Prior to this adjustment, Corps Members were earning ₦33,000 per month. Caroline Embu, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, highlighted that the increase followed a visit by Brigadier General YD Ahmed, Director General of the NYSC, to the Commission, where he advocated for improved welfare for Corps Members. The NYSC leader expressed appreciation to the government for the timely intervention, emphasizing that the hike would relieve financial pressures on Corps Members, boost their morale, and inspire greater dedication to national service.
