The federal investigation into donations made to Mayor Eric Adams’ 2021 campaign is reportedly expanding, with authorities now focusing on contributions linked to multiple foreign governments. Initially, the probe centered on individuals connected to the Turkish government, but sources tell CBS News New York that subpoenas issued over the summer requested information on five additional countries.

At a town hall event in the Bronx on Monday, Adams alluded to the investigation, saying, “We are not going to surrender our city… I’m going to fight for this city just as I fought for it when I was a police officer.”

According to sources, in July, federal agents delivered a new set of subpoenas to Adams’ lawyer, seeking information related to his interactions with Israel, China, Qatar, South Korea, and Uzbekistan. Although the specific details of the investigation remain unclear, it is believed to stem from a probe launched in November 2023.

Last year, authorities raided the home of Brianna Suggs, Adams’ chief fundraiser, investigating whether the Adams campaign accepted illegal donations in exchange for pushing the FDNY to approve a new Turkish consulate in Manhattan, despite safety concerns. The investigation has also looked into free flights and upgrades Adams received from Turkish Airlines, with the latest subpoenas reportedly focusing on his connections to Turkish officials.
