The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has advocated for the adoption of inclusive policies within higher education institutions to better serve diverse student needs. JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq O. Oloyede, made this appeal during a press conference titled “Advancing Equal Opportunity Access to Higher Education.”

Prof. Oloyede stressed the need for collaboration among stakeholders, including government agencies, educational institutions, the private sector, and civil society, to promote equal access to higher education. He emphasized JAMB’s commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities (PWDs) receive equitable opportunities to pursue higher education.

“Education is a fundamental human right, and we are dedicated to enhancing inclusivity in higher education across Africa,” Oloyede stated. The conference’s theme, “Advancing the Potentials of Persons with Disabilities in Educational and Economic Development,” highlights the importance of leveraging PWDs’ talents for societal benefit.

Oloyede outlined several strategic initiatives by JAMB to improve inclusivity, including the establishment of specialized testing centers, the integration of assistive technology, enhanced teacher training, and increased stakeholder engagement.

He also praised recent federal initiatives, such as including PWDs in the student loan scheme, and commended the National Assembly for passing the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act. These efforts demonstrate JAMB’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive and equitable educational environment for all students.
