Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark continued her stellar rookie season in the WNBA by setting yet another record during a game against the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old helped lead the Fever to an 84-80 victory, scoring 19 points, including her 86th three-pointer of the season. This achievement broke the previous rookie record of 85 three-pointers, set by Rhyne Howard of the Atlanta Dream in 2022. Notably, Clark reached this milestone in just 31 games, compared to Howard’s 34-game regular season.
Clark’s latest record is part of an impressive debut campaign filled with remarkable achievements. She currently leads the WNBA in three-pointers, having extended her total to 88 during the win over Connecticut. She also holds the single-season rookie record for assists with 224, and she has recorded more assists and turnovers than any other player in the league this season.
Drafted as the first overall pick by the Fever in 2024, Clark joined the WNBA after a historic college career at the University of Iowa, where she broke numerous records. In 2023, she became the all-time leading scorer in men’s and women’s college basketball with 3,951 points, surpassing Pete Maravich’s 54-year-old record.
Clark averaged 28.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 8.2 assists in college and significantly boosted the visibility of women’s basketball, with nearly 19 million viewers tuning in to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association final in 2023.
