At least five people, including two children, were killed in an Israeli air strike on a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian health ministry. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the strike on the Nur Shams camp near Tulkarm, stating it targeted the command center of a “terror cell.”
In a separate incident, the health ministry reported that one person was shot dead and three others were injured during an attack by Israeli settlers near Bethlehem. The IDF said it is investigating these reports.
Violence in the West Bank has escalated since the war in Gaza began, following Hamas’s attack on southern Israel on October 7. The UN reported last Wednesday that 128 Palestinians, including 26 children, have been killed in Israeli air strikes in the West Bank since the conflict started. In total, 607 Palestinians, including 11 killed by Israeli settlers, have died in the West Bank and East Jerusalem during this period.
The UN also reported that 15 Israelis, including nine members of Israeli forces and five settlers, were killed by Palestinians in the West Bank, while another 10 Israelis were killed in attacks within Israel by Palestinians from the West Bank.
