President Bola Tinubu has signed the Judicial Office Holders Salaries and Allowances Bill 2024 into law, marking a significant increase in the salaries and allowances of Nigeria’s judicial officials.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters.
Lado highlighted that this development underscores President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers, particularly those in key roles such as the judiciary. “This extraordinary move underscores Mr. President’s absolute prioritization of the welfare of Nigerian workers above all else, just like he did when he recently put on hold an ongoing Federal Executive Council meeting to assent to the new National Minimum Wage Bill of N70,000,” Lado stated.
The new Act prescribes updated salaries, allowances, and other benefits for Judicial Officers, reflecting the evolving economic realities in Nigeria. It also amends the Certain Political, Public, and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) Act, No.6, 2002, by deleting provisions related to Judicial Office Holders from that Act.
“In a demonstration of his visionary leadership and deep compassion for the Nigerian people, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCON has once again affirmed his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the nation’s workforce by assenting to the revised Salaries and Allowances for Judicial Office Holders,” Lado noted. He added that this decision not only reinforces the integrity of the justice system but also sets a new standard for leadership that values the hard work and sacrifices of all Nigerian workers.
The bill’s passage by the Senate in June, which came after it cleared a third reading, was commended by Lado as an expression of their patriotic commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerians. He thanked the National Assembly for prioritizing the welfare of Nigerians by passing and transmitting the executive Bill.
Lado concluded by emphasizing the importance of the judiciary as the hope of the common man and expressed hope that Nigerians seeking justice will receive it regardless of their status in life.
