Following the collapse of the Baltimore bridge, the bodies of two individuals were discovered inside a submerged red pickup truck at the scene.

The bridge collision occurred while eight construction workers were present, resulting in their plunge into the water below. Although two workers were successfully rescued on the day of the incident, the search for the remaining four individuals continues, with all presumed deceased.

Salvage crews are actively engaged in addressing hazardous materials at the site, while accident investigators are conducting inquiries to determine the sequence of events leading to the collapse.

To date, four out of the six victims of the bridge collapse have been identified.

During a press briefing held on Wednesday, Maryland State Police disclosed the identities of Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, aged 35, and Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, aged 26, as the two workers retrieved by divers from within the submerged truck. Mr. Fuentes hails from Mexico, while Mr. Cabrera is a native of Guatemala.

However, due to the presence of concrete and debris obstructing the river, divers are unable to safely navigate the waters, as per police reports. Consequently, authorities have resorted to employing sonar scans. Officials believe that additional vehicles, potentially containing further victims, are “entombed within the superstructure and concrete” that collapsed from the bridge, an official stated.

Moreover, the identities of two other missing victims, presumed deceased, have been disclosed: Miguel Luna, originally from El Salvador, and Maynor Suazo Sandoval, a citizen of Honduras.

Earlier, Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that two of its citizens were presumed deceased following the bridge collapse. One of these individuals has been identified as Mr. Fuentes, as confirmed recently. Additionally, another Mexican national was successfully rescued from the water.

Officials reported late Wednesday that one individual who was hospitalized after being rescued from the water has been discharged.

On Tuesday, first responders tirelessly scoured the waters of the Patapsco River in search of the six construction workers. These workers were engaged in repairing potholes on the bridge at approximately 01:30 (05:30 GMT) when the ship collided with the structure. The US Coast Guard eventually ceased search operations around sunset, citing the combination of cold water temperatures and the passage of time, leading to the presumption of the workers’ demise.
