Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has emphasized the importance of lawful travel with proper documentation for Nigerians planning to go abroad, warning against the potential consequences of unauthorized migration.
According to a statement released on Thursday by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the spokesman of NIDCOM, Dabiri-Erewa conveyed this message during her visit to Nigerians in a shelter in Brampton, Canada.
While expressing sympathy for those in the shelter, she urged individuals contemplating travel without proper documentation to reconsider, noting that the situation is becoming increasingly challenging in many countries. The statement quoted her saying, “It is just not worth it, more often than not.”
The statement further mentioned that Vivian Eruka, associated with the Bethel food bank and working with shelter residents, shared that the Mayor of Brampton had pledged to provide an additional 800 beds and shelters for asylum seekers.
Mr. Wale Rabiu, the proprietor of Matlock bakery, contributed by donating numerous loaves of bread to the shelter residents, as highlighted in the statement.
