Obasanjo Issues Warning To Tinubu’s Supporters Over Alleged Endorsement

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has issued a warning to supporters of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the assertion that he has endorsed him.

When Tinubu and several of his loyalists paid him a visit in Abeokuta last Wednesday, Obasanjo expressed his displeasure at what he described as an unauthorized report of the conversation during the private meeting he had with the candidate.

The former president said yesterday that the words emanating from people claiming to be Tinubu’s supporter are unhelpful in a statement by his special assistant on media, Kehinde Akinyemi.

According to Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, what transpired at the meeting between Obasanjo and Tinubu was a sign of Tinubu’s triumph in 2023. Speaking at the Surulere Local Government Area APC meeting in Surulere, Lagos, Gbajabiamila made the claim on Thursday.

According to the Speaker, who claimed to have been there at the Abeokuta meeting, Tinubu’s presidency was almost a certainty based on what he heard there.

Obasanjo responded to the assertion by saying that it was false and that the sources of the news were unhelpful to the campaign.

Obasanjo said, “Those claiming to be insiders at the meeting issuing a statement on the discussion and those crediting to me statement I had not made are enemies of the visitor and are not doing the visit any good.”
