Dr. Iyochia Ayu, the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has told Nigerians that the number of foreign loans Nigeria has received under the Buhari administration, as well as the country’s economic woes, have rendered Nigeria a beggar in the community of nations and turned the country into the world’s poverty capital.
Dr. Ayu stated this in a conversation with BBC Hausa, saying that while the PDP had made errors in the past, the party has admitted to them, unlike certain governors who were full of deception.
According to him, “it is generally known that since the assumption of power of the incumbent government, it couldn’t fulfill promises made to Nigerians.
‘’We don’t lie, we don’t say we’ve done what others have done or are doing. Now, we are ever ready to make amends.”
The PDP chairman stated that the party has organized training for newly elected party leaders to keep them informed on how to deal with the country’s insecurity.
He described it as “disappointing” that people could no longer travel securely from Kaduna to Abuja, but added that they were now prepared to look at solutions.
“ The situation in our country is so bad that anyone on a journey from Abuja to Kaduna, whether by road or by rail, would not have a peaceful mind.
‘’It is a must that we right the wrongs in our party,so as to get people’s support. Every side must be given the chance to comment so that together, we work in unison to achieve what the people desired.
“ We shall discuss with people to hear their views because we would not trust the Nigeria of today in which people are diverting official things for their interest, rather than for the people,’’ he said.
He compared Chief Obasanjo’s and late Yar’Adua’s administrations, noting that both faced insecurity but overcame it.
Ayu claimed that when the PDP takes power in 2023, it will “make amends and introduce improvements,” having learned how to deal with insecurity challenges.
“ Things are stagnant, they left everything without any progress. This has clearly shown the failure of APC and their lack of skill in governance.
“They failed to keep their promises to Nigerians,” he remarked.
Ayu also criticized the number of foreign loans Nigeria received under Buhari, claiming that the country has become a beggar in the international community as a result.
He said that Nigeria has already become the world’s poorest country due to economic difficulties.
