Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has announced former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as his running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi made the announcement shortly after he was officially confirmed as the NDC’s presidential candidate on Saturday.
The development comes as both politicians recently defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal divisions and ongoing legal disputes within the party.
With the announcement, the Obi–Kwankwaso ticket is expected to become the flagship of the NDC as the party positions itself for a major challenge in the upcoming presidential election.
The NDC leadership has yet to release full details on the formal unveiling and campaign structure for the new joint ticket.
The development, if confirmed, would mark one of the most high-profile opposition alliances ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
