Zamfara Governor to Recruit 2,000 Teachers to Revamp Education Sector

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has announced plans to recruit 2,000 qualified teachers as part of an ambitious effort to transform the state’s education sector. The announcement was made during the Executive Council meeting at the Government House Council Chamber in Gusau.

In a statement released by Sulaiman Bala Idris, the governor’s spokesperson, the initiative was described as a fulfillment of Governor Lawal’s campaign promises. Education is highlighted as the administration’s second-highest priority, with significant progress already achieved since declaring a state of emergency in the sector on November 14, 2023.

The state of emergency has led to the construction and renovation of over 400 schools across Zamfara’s 14 local government areas. Additionally, the government has provided over 12,000 two-seater desks for students and more than 700 tables and 1,000 chairs for teachers in newly constructed and renovated schools.

Governor Lawal outlined the teacher recruitment as a key activity for 2025, emphasizing transparency and quality in the phased hiring process. “We will employ 2,000 qualified teachers to help improve and revitalize the education sector,” he stated.

The first phase, set to begin in the first quarter of 2025, will focus on hiring 500 teachers. Priority will be given to critical subjects such as English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, ICT, and Entrepreneurship studies.

This initiative forms part of the AGILE Program, a broader effort to address gaps in the education system and enhance teaching and learning standards across Zamfara State.
