The Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has banned signing-out carnivals and similar activities across all schools in the state, citing rising cases of student misconduct linked to such celebrations.
The directive was contained in a circular signed by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, and distributed to Governor Dauda Lawal, security agencies, school authorities, and other stakeholders.
According to the ministry, recent signing-out events organised by final-year students have degenerated into activities marked by indecent dressing, unruly behaviour, and practices inconsistent with expected moral and academic standards.
The government said it will no longer tolerate actions that undermine discipline or distract students from the core values of education.
Teachers found aiding or condoning such activities risk disciplinary measures, including queries, final written warnings, suspension, or demotion, depending on the severity of the offence.
Students who violate the directive will also face sanctions, which may include withholding or cancellation of examination results, as well as repeating their final year where necessary.
To enforce compliance, security agencies and school security personnel have been directed to intensify surveillance in and around school premises, especially during periods when such activities are typically held.
The ministry also urged parents, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to support the directive by promoting discipline and reinforcing acceptable moral standards among students.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening discipline, promoting academic excellence, and safeguarding students’ moral values across educational institutions in the state.
