In a viral video, community youths in Imo State can be seen confronting a police officer who allegedly snatched election materials at a polling unit.
The officer, part of a group affiliated with an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Ikeduru Local Government Area, reportedly received instructions from the politician to snatch the ballots at the Amakohia Ikeduru Collation Center, where the APC faced defeat.
Subsequently, the community youths apprehended one officer while others fled the scene.
Police Spokesman Speaks On Officer Purportedly Involved In Ballot Snatching In Imo
The Nigerian Police Force Spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has reacted to the video of its officer beaten to a pulp over the alleged snatching of ballot boxes at a polling unit in Imo State.
In a post via X, Adejobi said the issue would be taken seriously as it bothers the integrity of the Police Force and the capability of its members to maintain election integrity.
He assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted.
He wrote: “The Nigeria Police Force is aware of the allegation regarding this supposed police officer purportedly involved in ballot snatching at the Amakohia Ikeduru Collation Centre in Imo State. We do not take this issue lightly, as it bothers on the integrity of the force and the capability of its members to maintain election integrity. We therefore assure the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and we will update you asap. It requires a thorough investigation. Thanks”
