Wreckage of Russian Passenger Plane Found Near Tynda After Disappearance

Russian rescue teams have located the wreckage of an Angara Airlines An-24 passenger plane that went missing while approaching Tynda airport in the country’s far eastern Amur region. The aircraft was carrying 43 passengers and six crew members, including five children, according to regional officials.

The plane had departed from Blagoveshchensk, near the Chinese border, and lost contact with air traffic control during its final approach. Amur Governor Vasily Orlov confirmed that “all necessary resources” were deployed to aid in the search.

Shortly after the aircraft disappeared from radar, Russia’s emergencies ministry reported that a civil aviation helicopter spotted the burning fuselage on a hillside roughly 16 kilometers (10 miles) from Tynda.

Emergency responders are en route to the crash site, which is in a remote and rugged area, the region’s civil defense center told the Tass news agency.

The ill-fated flight was completing the final segment of its journey from Khabarovsk in Russia’s far southeast. Authorities have not yet released information about possible survivors or the cause of the crash.
