On August 3, 2023, World Bank President Ajay Banga will fly into Nigeria for a three-day visit.
The World Bank said in a statement on Tuesday that while in Nigeria, Banga will meet with Vice President Kashim Shettima and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The World Bank will also have meetings with participants from the private sector and civil society.
According to the statement, the visit is the next step of a global tour that is at the centre of a mission to write a new playbook for the 78-year-old institution.
Banga will focus his time in Nigeria on identifying opportunities to create jobs for young people and women, addressing energy needs and renewable energy, and further exploring the potential for digitization.
He will visit a mini-grid power plant with World Bank finance that is supplying solar energy to an entire community as well as a woman-owned business that has created more than 1,500 jobs for young Nigerians in the service industry as part of these initiatives.
Banga and his wife Ritu are traveling together following a two-day visit to Ethiopia.
The trip to Africa comes after stops on the tour in India, Jamaica, and Peru.
