Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring that his support will continue “till 2031.”
The statement, issued on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, effectively quells speculations that the former Rivers State governor plans to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Olayinka described reports suggesting that some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were pressuring Wike to run for president as “another lie from idle minds who have nothing to contribute to the development of the country.”
He accused those behind the reports of attempting to cause political confusion and distract the minister from his duties in the FCT.
According to Olayinka, “The Minister has made it clear where he stands as long as the 2027 presidential election is concerned he is with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
He further stated that “as far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031,” adding that the minister “does not function in hiding. He does what he says and says what he does.”
Olayinka also clarified that claims of a meeting held by PDP leaders to push Wike into the 2027 race were false. He explained that the only meeting held on August 20, 2025, was that of southern PDP stakeholders, which had no connection to any presidential ambition.
He noted that the meeting’s outcome was publicly communicated through a joint statement signed by party leaders from the South-East and South-South regions, including state chairmen, lawmakers, and national officers.
The minister’s aide emphasized that Wike remains focused on delivering President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through infrastructure development and policy reforms in the FCT.
“Wike will continue to deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda by actualising the President’s vision for a world-class capital city,” Olayinka said.
He added that those spreading falsehoods about the minister’s political ambition were merely wasting their time, stressing that Nigerians already know Wike’s character and straightforwardness.
