Wike Denies Health Rumours, Blames Distractions on Rivers Crisis

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed circulating rumours about his health, denying claims that he collapsed or was flown abroad for medical attention.

During a project inspection tour in Abuja on Thursday, Wike described the reports as fabrications by mischief-makers attempting to distract the public from the growing political crisis in Rivers State.

He attributed the false claims to a ploy aimed at diverting attention from the serious allegations made by George Nwaeke, the former Head of Service of Rivers State. Nwaeke had accused suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara of giving a bag of money to his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to facilitate the destruction of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex—an allegation that has sparked widespread political tension.

Both Fubara and Ehie have denied the accusations, dismissing Nwaeke’s claims as false and unhinged. In retaliation, Ehie is reported to have instructed his legal team to file a defamation suit against Nwaeke.

Wike reaffirmed his commitment to his duties as FCT Minister, stating, “I am very much healthy and focused.” He urged Nigerians to ignore baseless rumours and instead pay attention to verified developments.

The incident marks another chapter in the ongoing political drama in Rivers State, as the fallout between Wike and Fubara continues to reverberate through the state’s political landscape.
