U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that “all hell will rain down” on Iran if Tehran refuses to reach a deal—an ultimatum Iranian officials have firmly rejected, raising fears of further escalation across the region.
A senior Iranian military figure, Gen. Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi, responded with equally stark language, cautioning that “the gates of hell will open” in the event of continued U.S. pressure.
The exchange comes amid a sharp increase in military activity. On Saturday, Iran launched additional missile strikes targeting Gulf states, Iraq, and Israel. While several projectiles were intercepted, falling debris caused damage. Overnight, further strikes were reported across Israel, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.
The heightened tensions coincide with an ongoing search for a missing American crew member following the downing of a U.S. F-15 fighter jet over Iran on Friday. U.S. media reports indicate the pilot was successfully rescued, but the search continues for a weapons systems officer.
Iranian state media reported that at least four people were killed in a U.S.-Israeli airstrike in the same region where search efforts are underway. Separately, missile strikes reportedly damaged telecommunications infrastructure in the southwestern city of Dehdasht, according to Tasnim news agency, which is affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Unverified footage circulating on social media appears to show civilians heading toward mountainous terrain in southwestern Iran to assist in locating the missing American. Iranian authorities have urged public cooperation in capturing the individual “alive,” reportedly offering financial incentives.
In a related incident, a U.S. A-10 Warthog aircraft deployed for search-and-rescue operations was struck and damaged. Its pilot ejected safely and was subsequently recovered over the الخليج (Gulf), according to reports.
President Trump reiterated his warning on Saturday, stating that the United States could resume strikes on Iranian energy facilities following a 10-day pause intended to allow diplomatic negotiations. Posting on Truth Social, he warned that failure to comply—or to reopen the Strait of Hormuz—within 48 hours would trigger severe consequences.
Iranian officials dismissed the threat. Gen. Aliabadi described Trump’s remarks as “helpless, nervous, unbalanced, and reckless,” while Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, warned that any escalation would engulf the region in widespread conflict.
“If hostility escalates, the entire region will turn into hell for you,” Zolfaghari said, adding that any attempt to defeat Iran would become “a quagmire.”
