Trump Announces Plans to Release Classified Files on Kennedy and King Assassinations

President-elect Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he intends to declassify classified documents related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert Kennedy, and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The announcement came during a rally in downtown Washington ahead of Trump’s second, non-consecutive term in office.

Trump reiterated his campaign promise to release intelligence and law enforcement files tied to these high-profile murders. While he previously declassified some documents related to JFK’s assassination during his first term (2017–2021), many remained sealed due to national security concerns raised by the CIA and FBI.

“In the coming days, we are going to make public remaining records related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert Kennedy, as well as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and other topics of great public interest,” Trump stated.

He did not provide details about which documents would be released or confirm a full declassification, leaving room for speculation and anticipation.

The murders of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy in 1968, and John F. Kennedy in 1963, remain subjects of widespread public fascination and speculation.

  • JFK’s Assassination: Official accounts attribute his death to Lee Harvey Oswald, a lone gunman. However, polls consistently show that many Americans believe a larger conspiracy was involved.
  • Robert Kennedy’s Death: Officially, Sirhan Sirhan was convicted of his murder. Still, theories persist about multiple gunmen, as his son, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has publicly suggested.
  • Martin Luther King Jr.’s Assassination: James Earl Ray was convicted, yet doubts and theories of government involvement persist.

Adding to the intrigue, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the son of the late senator and nephew of JFK, is set to join Trump’s Cabinet as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Kennedy Jr. has openly questioned the official narratives of both his uncle’s and father’s deaths, alleging CIA involvement in JFK’s assassination and claiming multiple gunmen were responsible for his father’s killing—claims the CIA has categorically denied.

Trump’s announcement has reignited interest in these historical events, with advocates for transparency hailing the move as a step toward uncovering the truth, while others remain skeptical about how much new information the files will reveal.

The forthcoming release has the potential to shed light on unanswered questions surrounding these pivotal moments in American history—or further deepen the mysteries that have endured for decades.
