Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday swore in Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power and Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, completing the replacement of cabinet members who recently resigned to pursue political ambitions.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the State House in Abuja and was attended by the ministers’ spouses and senior government officials.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the appointments followed the resignations of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar.
Both nominees were screened and confirmed by the Senate on May 6, 2026, after being forwarded by the President.
Tegbe, an indigene of Ibadan in Oyo State, brings more than three decades of experience in economic reforms, fiscal policy, institutional transformation and stakeholder engagement to the Power Ministry.
He graduated with a First Class degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University and also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Switzerland as well as a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Birmingham.
Before his appointment, Tegbe served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led several reform initiatives involving governance strategies and fiscal restructuring at both federal and sub-national levels.
He also worked with institutions and organisations including the Nigerian Communications Commission, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Shell, Huawei, General Electric and MTN Nigeria.
Enikanolaiye, who hails from Igbagun in Kogi State, is a seasoned diplomat and former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He earned a First Class degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, where he emerged the best graduating student in his faculty, and later obtained a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy with distinction from the University of Lagos.
Enikanolaiye joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in August 1982 and rose through the ranks before becoming Permanent Secretary in 2016, a role he held until his retirement in August 2017 after 35 years in service.
During his diplomatic career, he served in Nigerian missions in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London and New Delhi, India, where he last served as Nigeria’s Head of Mission.
Until his latest appointment, he was Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.
He is also a recipient of several honours, including the Presidential Civil Service Merit Award and the Presidential Distinguished Public Service Career Award.
The appointments follow a wave of resignations and cabinet changes ahead of the All Progressives Congress primary elections in May 2026.
Tinubu’s administration has carried out multiple cabinet reshuffles since the inauguration of the Federal Executive Council in August 2023, with several ministers either replaced, reassigned or stepping down to pursue elective positions.
