Tinubu Orders Federal Food Intervention Amidst Rising Prices

President Bola Tinubu has issued directives for a federal food intervention to address the prevailing food shortage in Nigeria.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, following a meeting of the Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention convened by Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Expressing government concern over the challenges faced by Nigerians, Idris emphasized the administration’s commitment to providing relief measures.
The Tuesday meeting, attended by key officials including the Minister of Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Yemi Cardoso, underscores the gravity of the situation.
The decision to initiate the food intervention follows recent protests in several states, notably Niger and Kano, where citizens voiced grievances over the escalating costs of essential food items and the overall high cost of living.
