Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, following the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu.
The nomination, announced by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, has been forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.
Adelabu stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across the public and private sectors. He previously served as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he coordinated bilateral development efforts between Nigeria and China.
He is also a former Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, and governance, advising both government and private sector organisations.
The presidency said Tegbe’s nomination is expected to strengthen ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s power sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investment under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He is also noted to have relevant experience in the sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reforms involving agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).
The nomination comes at a critical time as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to address longstanding challenges in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, amid concerns over frequent grid collapses and unstable power supply.
Pending Senate confirmation, Tegbe is expected to play a key role in driving reforms aimed at improving electricity access and reliability across Nigeria.
