President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to addressing Nigeria’s key challenges, emphasizing that his administration is dedicated to improving infrastructure, food and energy security, education, and ensuring long-term economic stability. During a meeting with the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly, led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani, Tinubu stressed that his time in office is driven by service to the nation, not personal gain.
“I didn’t come for money; I came to work. I sought votes, and Nigerians entrusted me with them,” Tinubu stated, according to his media aide, Bayo Onanuga. The meeting was attended by 16 former presiding officers, including former Senate Presidents, Speakers, and their deputies.
The President expressed appreciation for the support of the former lawmakers, irrespective of political affiliations, and urged them to continue fostering unity for the nation’s progress. He noted the importance of collaboration and inclusiveness in tackling Nigeria’s complex legislative and developmental challenges.
Reflecting on past economic missteps, Tinubu questioned, “What did we do when we had high crude production?” He lamented the neglect of communities and the underfunding of education, adding that his administration is committed to addressing these issues, including improving school infrastructure and exploring alternative energy sources.
Former Senate President Ken Nnamani, speaking on behalf of the Forum, expressed confidence in Tinubu’s ability to overcome Nigeria’s challenges, citing his courage in handling key issues such as local government autonomy. Nnamani pledged the group’s support for the administration’s efforts to restore national security, strengthen the economy, and promote unity.
Nnamani also praised Tinubu for entrusting some of their members with critical national roles, further highlighting their commitment to nation-building.
