President Bola Tinubu has called on political stakeholders and voters in Ondo State to uphold peace and integrity as the state prepares for its off-cycle governorship election today Saturday, November 16, 2024.
In a statement released on Friday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed confidence in a transparent electoral process that will reflect the true will of the people. He encouraged citizens to perform their civic duties without fear and to maintain decorum during and after the polls.
The President commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its readiness, including the timely distribution of sensitive materials across Ondo’s 18 local government areas. He also praised the deployment of security personnel to maintain order during the election.
Tinubu acknowledged assurances from the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff, who pledged professional conduct by security operatives in line with the Electoral Act, ensuring a credible and peaceful election.
Addressing political candidates, Tinubu reminded them that governance is a privilege entrusted by the people, urging respect for the electorate’s mandate. He called for a focus on strengthening Nigeria’s 25 years of democratic progress through free, fair, and credible elections. “This election is not just a milestone for Ondo State but an opportunity to deepen Nigeria’s democratic values,” Tinubu said, reiterating his administration’s commitment to electoral credibility nationwide.
