President Bola Tinubu has appointed Nwakuche Sylvester Ndidi as the Acting Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS). The appointment, confirmed on Friday by Dada Olusegun, the president’s special assistant on social media, will take effect on December 15, 2024.
Ndidi succeeds Haliru Nababa, who retired on Thursday after being appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in February 2021.
Ja’afaru Ahmed, secretary of the civil defence, correctional, fire, and immigration board, noted in a statement that the president approved Ndidi’s appointment following Nababa’s tenure expiration.
Born on November 26, 1966, in Oguta, Imo State, Ndidi previously served as the Deputy Controller-General overseeing the Training and Staff Development Directorate. He is a fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies and holds the national honour of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR).
President Tinubu urged Ndidi to bring his extensive experience to his new role, ensuring the continued growth and efficiency of the NCoS.
Meanwhile, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, lauded Haliru Nababa’s tenure, describing it as one of remarkable leadership and impactful service.
“As you step into a well-earned retirement, we celebrate your numerous achievements and the positive impact you have made on countless lives,” Tunji-Ojo said. “On behalf of President Tinubu, I wish you a happy and fulfilling retirement, filled with good health and prosperity.”
The minister expressed confidence that Nababa’s legacy would inspire and motivate the NCoS community for years to come.
