Teacher Remanded for Assaulting Three-Year-Old Pupil in Lagos

A 45-year-old primary school teacher, Stella Nwadiggbo, has been ordered to be remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Facility by an Ogba Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly assaulting a three-year-old pupil in Ikorodu.

The incident, captured in a viral video showing Nwadiggbo slapping the child in a classroom, sparked widespread public outrage. The teacher was arrested by the Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Ikorodu Police Division following the video’s circulation.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that Nwadiggbo was arraigned at Magistrate’s Court 1, Ogba, on Thursday. The charges against her include indecent treatment and assault of a child, as directed by the Lagos State Commissioner of PoliceOlanrewaju Ishola.

“The suspect was apprehended by the Ikorodu Police Division on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, after receiving the video,” Hundeyin stated. He added that Nwadiggbo was subsequently transferred to the Gender Unit at the Command Headquarters for further investigation.

The victim, a three-year-old, was reportedly taken to a medical facility for appropriate medical care.

Nwadiggbo has been remanded in custody until February 18, 2025, when the case will continue.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, commended citizens for their prompt action in alerting authorities and assured Lagosians of the Command’s dedication to ensuring safety and justice for all residents.
