Taylor Swift Reflects on Vienna Tour Cancellations, Expresses Guilt and Relief After Security Threat

Taylor Swift has expressed deep concern and guilt over the cancellation of her Vienna tour dates following a security threat. In an Instagram post, the 34-year-old singer shared that the cancellations filled her with “a new sense of fear” and “a tremendous amount of guilt” knowing that many fans had planned to travel to the shows.

The three concerts, scheduled for earlier in August, were called off after three individuals were arrested for allegedly planning attacks inspired by the Islamic State group.

Swift, who concluded the European leg of her Eras Tour at London’s Wembley Stadium on Tuesday, said in her post, “Having our Vienna shows canceled was devastating. But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”

She emphasized the importance of fan safety in her decision to continue with the tour, stating, “I decided that all of my energy had to go toward helping to protect the nearly half a million people I had coming to see the shows in London.” She thanked her team, stadium staff, and British authorities for their efforts in ensuring safety.

Addressing why she waited to speak about the Vienna cancellations, Swift explained, “I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows. In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to.”

She concluded by expressing relief that the European tour ended safely. Swift’s next concert on The Eras Tour is scheduled for 18 October in Miami, Florida.
