Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has announced that he will officially defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
Kefas disclosed the date during an inspection tour of the Jolly Nyame Stadium, which is undergoing renovation ahead of a major rally to mark his defection. He said the decision was driven by what he described as the long-term interest of Taraba State rather than any personal political advantage.
According to him, the move represents “the destiny of the people of Taraba,” adding that preparations are in top gear to receive high-profile guests expected at the event.
Members of the state executive council have pledged total loyalty to the governor as he begins his political transition. Speaking on behalf of the cabinet, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Muslim Aruwa, said the team would follow Kefas to any political platform.
“The Governor is our leader. Wherever he goes, we move with him be it APC, SDP, or ADC,” Aruwa said. “This alignment with the Federal Government is for the good of all citizens. It is about development, not personal gain.”
Aruwa stressed that the defection is “for the entire people of Taraba State,” noting that the cabinet stands with the governor “100 percent.”
Kefas’ move to the APC comes amid growing political controversy nationwide, following allegations that some governors defecting to the ruling party are being lured with substantial financial incentives.
