The 22-year-old, who experienced a breakthrough in 2023, winning his first Masters title and reaching the ATP Finals championship match, displayed resilience in defeating the 59th-ranked Dutchman 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 on Rod Laver Arena.
Sinner, currently at a career-high fourth in the world rankings, expressed satisfaction with the victory, emphasizing the significance of starting the season with a win.
Despite a brief challenge from Van de Zandschulp, Sinner showcased his form and determination, aiming for a successful campaign at the Australian Open.
