Shehu Sani: Tinubu’s Military Shake-Up Vital for Security

Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent reshuffle of the nation’s military leadership as a necessary move in the ongoing fight against insecurity.

On Friday, President Tinubu sacked the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, along with other top service chiefs. According to a statement by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, General Musa was replaced by General Olufemi Oluyede, who previously served as Chief of Army Staff.

Other appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. However, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retained his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

The changes come just days after reports alleged an attempted coup against President Tinubu claims which the Defence Headquarters dismissed as baseless.

Reacting to the development on his X handle, Sani, also a human rights activist, said periodic changes in military leadership are essential to achieving tangible results in the war against insecurity.

He attributed past failures in addressing insecurity to the reluctance of previous administrations to make bold leadership changes within the armed forces.

“For us in Kaduna, we appreciate the service and stewardship of the outgoing CDS, General Musa. We are proud of his accomplishments and wish him well in his future endeavours,” Sani stated.
