Seven Dead, Including Three Children, in Lviv Amid Fresh Russian Attacks on Ukraine

Seven people, including three children, were killed in Lviv, Ukraine, during a new wave of Russian attacks overnight, according to the city’s mayor. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy reported that the city was targeted with drones and hypersonic missiles early Wednesday. Among the victims were a baby, two girls aged nine and 14, and a midwife, officials said.

Explosions were also reported in the capital, Kyiv, as air defenses intercepted Russian missiles. In Kryvyy Rih, a hotel was hit, injuring five people, and nearby buildings were damaged. “Thank God everyone is alive now,” said Kryvyy Rih Mayor Oleksandr Vilkul.

The Ukrainian military announced a nationwide air alert in response to the attacks. In Lviv, dozens were wounded, and over 50 buildings, including homes, schools, and clinics, were damaged, Mayor Sadovy noted.

These strikes come as Ukraine is still grappling with the aftermath of Russia’s deadliest single bombardment this year, which killed at least 50 people at a military institute in Poltava on Tuesday. Rescue efforts are ongoing at the site.

Mykyta Petrov, a 26-year-old cadet at the Poltava Military Communications Institute, described the attack: two missiles struck shortly after 09:00 (06:00 GMT) on Tuesday, with the second detonating just three seconds after the first. “I ran outside; there was smoke and dust everywhere…lots of people were outside having a cigarette, and many were killed,” Petrov said, adding that the experience was psychologically traumatizing.

An air raid siren had sounded just two minutes before the missiles hit, not allowing enough time for people to reach shelters.
