Senate Confirms Bernard Doro as Minister After Brief Screening

The Senate on Wednesday confirmed Bernard Doro as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, following a screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes.

Doro, who becomes the third ministerial nominee from Plateau State, outlined his vision for an inclusive and efficient humanitarian system during the exercise. He pledged to promote a framework guided by impartiality and independence, while deepening collaboration between humanitarian and security institutions to ensure better support for people affected by crises.

“We must strengthen synergy between humanitarian and security institutions to ensure that help reaches those truly affected by crises,” Doro told lawmakers, adding that technology would play a vital role in achieving this goal.

After a brief round of questions, senators expressed satisfaction with his credentials and leadership capacity before asking him to take a bow and leave.

President Bola Tinubu had appointed Doro last week following the resignation of Nentawe Yilwatda, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, who now serves as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Born on March 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Doro brings more than two decades of professional experience to his new role. He holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, as well as an MBA focused on IT-driven business strategy.

An Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Doro has worked extensively within the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS) across urgent care, walk-in centres, general practice, and hospital settings.

Beyond his medical career, he has also led several youth mentorship and social impact initiatives both in the diaspora and within local communities.
