Russia said it repelled a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack overnight into Thursday, with officials reporting that dozens of drones were intercepted near Moscow.
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, air defense systems shot down at least 347 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions overnight. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said more than 30 drones heading toward the Russian capital were intercepted, with emergency crews responding to areas where debris fell.
Meanwhile, Ukraine accused Russia of continuing its own long-range attacks. Ukraine’s air force said Moscow launched more than 100 drones overnight, most of which were intercepted or disabled, though several reportedly struck targets inside the country.
The renewed exchanges come despite competing ceasefire announcements from both sides.
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently declared a unilateral truce to coincide with Russia’s annual Victory Day commemorations marking the end of World War II. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later announced a separate 24-hour ceasefire beginning earlier this week.
Kyiv, however, accused Moscow of violating the pause by continuing missile strikes and frontline operations. Zelenskyy said Wednesday that Russia had “derailed the ceasefire regime,” adding that Ukraine would determine its next steps based on developments on the battlefield.
The latest wave of cross-border attacks underscores the continuing volatility of the conflict despite repeated public calls for temporary truces.
