Peter Obi Denies Seeking Automatic Labour Party Ticket for 2027

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, has denied seeking an automatic ticket or special treatment from the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement through his media aide, Ibrahim Umar, Obi dismissed speculations following comments by LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, who refuted claims that the party had already decided to field Obi, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, and other 2023 candidates in the next election.

The controversy emerged after factional LP spokesperson Abayomi Arabambi declared that Obi would be the party’s flagbearer in 2027 to challenge President Bola Tinubu. However, Ifoh clarified that such decisions could only come from the Julius Abure-led party leadership.

Umar reiterated that Obi remains focused on national development rather than internal party politics.

“Our principal, Peter Obi, remains committed to democracy and the well-being of Nigerians. He has never sought a free ticket or special treatment but instead advocates for a level playing field where all candidates can compete fairly,” he said.

He urged supporters to ignore misleading claims, emphasizing that Obi’s priority remains promoting good governance, economic growth, and social justice.
