PDP Clarifies Anyanwu Appeal, Says No Suspension Ever Existed

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, has clarified that the appeal filed by its National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, was not related to any suspension from the party.

In a statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, said reports suggesting otherwise were misconstrued and misrepresented. He added that the party has already directed the withdrawal of the appeal as it is no longer necessary.

Mohammed explained that although Anyanwu filed an appeal, it was not against any suspension but rather challenged the competence and proceedings of a disciplinary committee previously chaired by Tom Ikimi.

He said the committee only recommended a suspension, which was never considered, adopted, or ratified by the party’s National Working Committee or National Executive Committee, and therefore had no binding effect.

According to him, the committee and its recommendations were later discarded after it was determined that it was constituted in violation of the party’s constitution.

He further clarified that the judgment delivered by Justice Halilu of the FCT High Court in January 2026 did not affirm any suspension, noting that the court dismissed the suit for lack of jurisdiction, ruling that internal party disciplinary matters are not justiciable.

The party added that the appeal, filed on April 10, 2026, was done inadvertently and has now been ordered withdrawn.

It also noted that Anyanwu and others mentioned in the reports had already completed their tenure since last year.

The PDP further stated that the Federal High Court in Ibadan had upheld the composition of its National Caretaker Committee and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise it.

It added that its Abuja National Convention held on March 29 and 30, 2026, was conducted in line with valid court judgments and was duly monitored by INEC.

The party urged media organisations to verify and properly contextualise reports before publication.
