On Sunday, Nigeria defeated Sao Tome 6-0 to finish their TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. Victor Osimhen netted a hat-trick victory during the course of the match.
Osimhen’s goal after just 13 minutes showed how dominant the Super Eagles were right away.
Ademola Lookman added a second goal with a clean finish, and Osimhen sealed the victory with a penalty after the break.
Taiwo Awoniyi and Samuel Chukwueze also got in on the act as Nigeria ran riot.
To end a fantastic individual performance, Osimhen finished his hat trick later in the game.
With ten goals from just five appearances, the Napoli forward finishes the qualifying round as Nigeria’s top scorer.
Following the win the Super Eagles sealed their place at the top of Group A on 15 points, scoring 22 goals in the six matches of the group.
Osimhen’s ruthlessness in front of goal proved the difference as Nigeria coasted to victory.
The three-time African champions’ convincing victory puts an excellent qualifying campaign to a close.
Nigeria will now turn their attention to the next year finals in Cote d’Ivoire, where they will be one of the favorites thanks to players like Osimhen.
