Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), debunking rumours of his defection to another political platform.
Speaking at the weekend in Makurdi while hosting members of the PDP G-14 and other party stakeholders from Benue North East and Benue North West senatorial districts, Ortom described the reports as the handiwork of mischief makers.
He emphasized that his focus remains on rebuilding the PDP and reclaiming power in the state by 2027.
“All the insinuations about me defecting are nothing but the work of mischief makers. Let me assure you that there is nothing like that. Rather, we are going to work together and reclaim power in this state come 2027,” Ortom said.
The former governor urged party members to remain steadfast and united, assuring them of his continued support. He reiterated that he has no plans to contest any elective position in 2027 but will stand firmly behind the party’s candidates.
Ortom also advised PDP aspirants to engage in wide consultations and remain focused despite ongoing defections to the ruling party.
In his remarks, the leader of the PDP G-14, Dr. Laha Dzever, commended Ortom for his steadfastness and leadership, pledging continued support.
Similarly, PDP leaders including the state deputy chairman, Hon. Azua Ashongo; Ambassador Chive Kaave; and Senator Fred Orti, representing Benue North East and Benue North West respectively, expressed readiness to work with Ortom to rebuild the party and return it to power.
The meeting was attended by serving and former members of the PDP National Executive Committee, ex-members of the Board of Trustees, local government chairmen, national delegates, former appointees, and other key stakeholders.
