Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has disbursed an additional N1 billion in gratuity to honor his commitment to the welfare of pensioners.
The announcement was made by Mr. Adesoji Adewuyi, the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of State Pensions, at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Monday.
Adewuyi clarified that the funds were allocated to cover pension arrears, with the initial disbursement addressing pensioners listed in October 2014 and clearing outstanding Basic, Rent, and Transport (BRT) allowances from March 2013.
Additionally, pensioners with urgent medical needs will be considered for assistance from the gratuity.
He added that the subsequent batch of gratuity would be allocated to pensioners listed in November 2014, along with settling the remaining BRT allowances for March and April 2013.
Expressing gratitude to Governor Abiodun for his dedication to the welfare of senior citizens, Adewuyi emphasized the positive impact the disbursement would have on pensioners’ lives, urging those awaiting payment to remain patient.
Over the past six months, the state government has released approximately N1.7 billion to support senior citizens, encompassing full payments from September to November 2014, BRT balances from January to May 2013, gratuities for retired judges, pensioners facing health challenges, and gratuities for certain permanent secretaries.
Beneficiaries who spoke on the development expressed their appreciation for the development, attributing their gratitude to divine providence and commending the governor for honoring his commitments. They offered prayers for Governor Abiodun’s continued guidance and protection in leading the state.
