Nigeria has launched its Contactless Passport Renewal System across Europe, following its successful rollout in Canada.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, described the initiative as a pivotal step in enhancing government services for Nigerians abroad, aligning with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“This innovative system is designed to eliminate the traditional hurdles associated with passport renewals. Now, eligible Nigerians in Europe can renew their passports entirely online from the comfort of their homes and offices,” he stated.
The initiative aims to:
- Enhance Efficiency – Enabling passport renewals without requiring physical presence, significantly reducing processing times.
- Improve Accessibility – Ensuring seamless access to government services for Nigerians in the diaspora.
- Drive Modernization – Leveraging digital transformation to improve service delivery, contributing to the administration’s $1 trillion economy ambition.
Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency, security, and continuous reforms to bring services closer to Nigerians.
“This launch is only the beginning. We are poised to expand these reforms to ensure every Nigerian, at home and abroad, benefits from our modernization efforts,” he added.
