Minister Nnaji Resigns Over Certificate Forgery Allegations

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji, has resigned from office following allegations of certificate forgery leveled against him.
Nnaji has come under intense criticism following allegations that he falsified the academic credentials he submitted to President Bola Tinubu and the Senate during his ministerial screening.
An investigation by PREMIUM TIMES uncovered that he did not complete his university education, and that the bachelor’s degree and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate he presented to the President, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Senate were all forged.
President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, noting that the President has accepted the minister’s resignation.
According to the statement, President Tinubu “accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, following some allegations against him.”
Onanuga added that Nnaji, who was appointed by President Tinubu in August 2023, tendered his resignation in a letter addressed to the President, thanking him for the opportunity to serve.
The former minister was quoted as saying he had “been a target of blackmail by political opponents.”
“President Tinubu thanked him for his service and wished him well in his future endeavours,” the statement concluded.
