The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), has reaffirmed his agency’s resolve to eradicate drug trafficking, warning that criminal networks will face intensified enforcement during his second five-year term.
Reappointed by President Bola Tinubu, Marwa told NDLEA staff at the Abuja headquarters that traffickers “will find no respite.”
“This second tenure is going to be hell and bleak for them,” he said. “Drugs shall not pass in or out or within Nigeria.” He urged those involved in drug trafficking or illegal cultivation to abandon the trade immediately, warning of arrests, asset seizure, and harsh consequences for non-compliance.
Marwa expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, NDLEA personnel, and local and international partners, describing his renewed mandate as a call for deeper commitment to the agency’s mission.
Highlighting rehabilitation and prevention, he announced plans to expand NDLEA facilities nationwide. Recent approval for drug testing of students entering tertiary institutions aims to “catch them young before addiction sets in.” Seven new centres are set to be built in 2025, ensuring that each state has at least one treatment and rehabilitation facility.
