Man City Go Top as Haaland Sinks Burnley, Seals Relegation

Manchester City climbed to the top of the Premier League table with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor, a result that also sealed the hosts’ relegation.

Pep Guardiola’s side have surged into pole position after overturning a nine-point gap on Arsenal in less than two weeks, edging ahead on goals scored with five matches left. It is the first time City have topped the table since the opening week, extending their unbeaten run to 11 games.

Erling Haaland proved decisive early on, scoring just five minutes into the match. He latched onto a pass from Jérémy Doku, raced through on goal, and chipped the ball over Martin Dúbravka. The striker later struck the post as City pushed for a second.

Despite dominating large spells, City were repeatedly denied by Dúbravka, who produced a series of key saves. Rayan Cherki came close with a powerful effort tipped onto the crossbar, while Nico O’Reilly and Rayan Aït-Nouri also missed chances to extend the lead.

Burnley threatened sporadically, with Jaidon Anthony forcing a save from Gianluigi Donnarumma, while Zian Flemming dragged a promising effort wide before half-time.

Guardiola showed visible frustration as his side failed to convert their dominance into more goals—something that could prove crucial in a tight title race. City remain level on points with Arsenal but ahead on goal difference as they chase a seventh league title in nine years.

At the bottom, Burnley’s defeat confirmed their third relegation in five seasons under Scott Parker. The club has managed just 20 points from 34 matches, leaving them 13 points from safety with four games remaining.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth saw their European hopes dented in a 2-2 draw with Leeds United. Goals from Junior Kroupi and Rayan were cancelled out by a James Hill own goal and a dramatic 97th-minute equaliser from Sean Longstaff.

The result leaves Bournemouth seventh, just above Chelsea, who parted ways with manager Liam Rosenior, while Leeds remain nine points clear of the relegation zone.
