The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has outlined key Federal Government interventions aimed at easing financial pressure on airline operators amid rising Jet A1 fuel costs and fears of service disruptions.
Keyamo disclosed this after a high-level meeting involving officials from the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, airline operators, and oil marketers, convened in response to the sharp increase in aviation fuel prices.
He revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a discount on certain outstanding fees owed by airlines to the Federal Government. According to the minister, the measure is designed to provide immediate relief and prevent a potential breakdown in air transport services.
Keyamo further announced that the President will soon set up a special committee to review and reduce multiple taxes and levies embedded in airfares. The planned review aims to lower operational costs for airlines and ease ticket prices for passengers.
The intervention comes as airline operators continue to warn that the soaring cost of Jet A1 fuel poses a serious threat to the sustainability and stability of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
